In pursuit to position India as a global design hub and to stimulate Indian industry to invest in design as a key component for increasing competitiveness, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been pursuing multipronged strategies in promoting the value of design and leveraging its capability to accelerate economic growth, since last 19 years.

Promotion of Indian Design for Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India)

The India Design Summit is a platform that brings together Government, Industry & Academia to create enduring partnership. Since the past 19 years the summit has been instrumental in promoting design in India and featuring the best of the Indian and international design thinkers, practitioners and design users. It is an international event that brings about new ideas, new initiatives and new thinking needed to contribute to the larger picture of design in the knowledge economy.

The 20th India Design Summit is supported by World Design Organization

The focal theme of this year’s summit is Promotion of Indian Design for Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) laying emphasis on the overarching role played by Design to bring cutting edge solutions and a way forward for design-based investment promotion in India. As life and livelihood across the globe experience series of disruption, we must leverage design capabilities to encourage economic growth.

Atmanirbhar Bharat, translated as self-reliant India, is a mission launched by the Government and is aimed at enabling Indian economic resurgence and emphasises the need for adopting pragmatic development strategies to enable the country to recognise and capitalise on its inherent strengths. The Mission also advocates the need for India's active participation in the post-COVID global value chains.

The deliberations during the conference will evaluate how design can be adapted to increase the self-reliance of Indian industry and ensure environmental safety, human welfare, business continuity & industrial growth.

India Design Summit will host series of events on focused theme, webinars, workshops, design talks by eminent academicians and industry experts, organized in partnership with various national and global partners for Indian design, research & development community, highlighting best design practices and celebrating design excellence

The Summit will feature the award ceremony for the 10th CII Design Excellence Awards, a celebration of Indian design and innovation prowess and the launch of the 6th edition for the CII India Design Book, an essential compilation of design case studied from the Indian design ethos.

The Summit will also host a month-long Virtual exhibition of design products and services and a B2B platform showcasing global partners, in addition to Indian Industry, design firms, start-ups and design institutes to explore possible collaborations.
