"Make in India" Making it Happen by Design

The theme of 15'Th CII NID Design Summit is "Make in India" Making it Happen by Design". The Prime Minister of India has unveiled a Make in India – a new national program designed to transform India into a global manufacturing hub.

In the wake of this national agenda it is but imperative to establish that Design has an important enabling role to play in achieving this objective. The 15'th CII-NID Design Summit will discuss what role design can play in supporting business sustainability and growth through design innovation coupled with evolving new paradigms of manufacturing.

The theme will explore how design can help in new product development, new market creation, go-to-market mechanisms for new ideas, and creation of product-service eco-systems.

It will also seek to deliberate on how design could be leveraged to spur indigenous manufacturing and exports and labor intensive manufacturing. The summit will endeavor to deliver a convincing message that new product development and efficient product design help create a competitive advantage that rewards companies, customers and economies.

The summit talks will deliberate on how to explore the dynamic relationship between product design, production efficiency and profits. Better designs trim the cost of assembly lines, strip material and process waste, help service people inspect and quickly upgrade systems, and enable to refine rather than re-manufacture. More than increasing efficiencies, good design ensures that there is something to manufacture that people desire. New product development and efficient product design help create a competitive advantage that rewards companies, customers and even economies.
